Damage Calculation Order (Attacking)
When you hit an enemy in Path of Exile 2, the game processes your damage through the following stages:

1. Base Damage Is Determined
This comes from your weapon or skill gem.

Additive modifiers (e.g., flat damage from gear or passives) are added here.

Example: 100 base physical + 20 fire from a ring.

2. Skill Modifiers Are Applied
Skill tags (e.g., Attack, Spell, Elemental) apply relevant modifiers.

“More” and “Increased” damage multipliers from passives and gear apply here.

Example: 50% more fire from a support gem = 20 fire → 30 fire.

3. Damage Conversion
If your skill converts physical to elemental damage, it happens now.

Converted damage inherits all relevant bonuses from the original type.

Example: 100 physical with 50% conversion to cold becomes 50 cold, 50 physical.

4. Penetration Is Calculated
Resistance penetration (e.g., Fire Penetration) is recorded here.

The penetration doesn’t apply yet, but it’s stored for later.

5. Critical Strike Check
Game rolls to determine if the hit is a crit.

Critical multiplier is applied only if it's a successful crit.

6. Hit Modifiers Apply
On-hit effects (e.g., Poison, Bleed, Shock chance) are rolled now.

Damage bonuses from ailments are determined here too.

7. Final Damage Output Is Packaged
The game bundles all your calculations into final outgoing values for each damage type: physical, fire, cold, lightning, chaos.
